The Twombly House

What defines northwest modern art and design?

Is it the rich natural environment that inspires, is it the eclectic sense of design that mixes without pretension or is it the creative class of individuals that flow into this region bringing fresh ideas and energy to the Pacific Northwest?

This 1950‘s ranch-style home which has been appropriately renovated into a contemporary dwelling; this project demonstrates the idea that art and design can be accessible and coexist in a daily living situation. The home entails a complete spectrum of the finest collections - fine art, product design and home décor. This home renovation aims to bring together a vision of modern art and design that reflects the unique spirit of place in the Pacific Northwest.

A symbiotic talent; the first - an art for finding amazing vintage to modern dwellings. The latter-having the full credentials of a fine arts & design background with a rich work history. This marriage of worlds channels the ingenious potential of a way to display both art & design in a modern living setting for the Pacific Northwest.

BLOOM

Katherine Dube 2010

Bloom
Ceramic Tile Wall Installation
4 x 4'
Los Angeles, California

Bloom is a tile based wall installation.  Each tile 'bloom' is unique; having a natural movement and motion to each tile.

The 'bloom' on each tile consists of thousands of single strands of extruded clay... hand attached. The variation of bloom is therefore naturally altered, depending upon flow and flux of the attachments.
The glaze is brushed on, with multiple glaze coats prior to the final firing.  Brushing the glaze ensures the individual blooms are enhanced; having the glaze body complement the individual attachments within the bloom collective.
